Descendants from Gilbert, Lord of Galloway. The Gibsons first settled in Lennox (Just north of Glasgow). They were historically very important family.

Gibson is indeed a sept of Buchanan: http://www.scotclans.com/scottish_clans/clan_buchanan/ whose lands are Loch Lomond-shire, these lands were granted by the Lord of Lennox so there are connections there.

An interesting family, they are described as a ‘formidable force’.

Best wishes with your journey into finding out about where you are from.

Where in Scotland did my surname “Gibson” come from? I know it is a sub clan of Buchanan.

Thanks,

Gary
